I love this so much. Watts has always been one my favourite philosophers. Hearing his words superimposed with the different movie clips made watching this all the more interesting and ethereal .
”We live in a culture where it has been rubbed into us in every conceivable way that to die is a terrible thing. And that is a tremendous disease from which our culture in particular suffers.” – Alan Watts
Alan Watts also had a great deal to say about more formal religious ideas of death.
In the lecture below, from a 1959 American television program, he explains a particular Buddhist concept of reincarnation and rebirth through various realms.
His thoughts and ideas help demonstrate that far from being fearful over the inevitability and mystery of death , as it was for Watts, ”one of the most creative thoughts I ever thought in my life.”
