I don’t know about you, but I really despise anyone touching my feet!
That said, after learning what Reflexologist Michele Stevens has to say about this technique, I may have to bite the bullet and try her two minute foot massage, which she claims will help you get a good night’s sleep once and for all!
Michele shared her sleep time foot massage tips with Healthista, explaining how our feet contain 26 bones, and over 7,000 nerve endings which are called reflexes.
Each one of these nerve endings is linked to the organs in our bodies.
Here are Michele’s five self-massage techniques you can try tonight, and there is no need for any oils or lotions, just your hands.
She recommends you first address the pineal gland writing:
Using the finger and thumb, press and hold the top of your big toe for a few seconds. Make small circular moves with your index finger on the tip of the toe.
The pineal gland is a small gland located in the brain that helps to regulate hormones, one of which is called melatonin.
That’s the hormone that helps regulate sleep patterns.
Michele suggests to help clear your mind, you should next use your thumb to press down and rub up and down along the whole of your big toe, at least three times.
To encourage deeper breathing you need to increase your bodies oxygen distribution. Use your thumb to ‘press upwards from top of foot to toes gently a few times’.
If your body is holding any tension, you can release it by kneading the middle of your foot three times, again, using your thumb.
Get yourself relaxed and settled by pressing with your thumb on the middle of your foot in a circular movement, don’t forget to take deep breaths.
