Society kills Imagination

Society Kills Imagination, and imagination is the first step towards success.

You see, imagination is the basis of creating a new reality, one for yourself, for your family and for the entire world at large.

NASA published a study and it showed that while 98% of people are born with the ability to be NASA scientists, only 2% maintain that gene by the time the school system is done with them.

There is no way around it, the school system needs to change, and I happen to know just the person to help us usher in a new era of schooling, and that’s Prince Ea.

Prince Ea is someone that I have been following for years. He has built a massive following on Facebook of over 18 Million Followers, and what he does it provide videos to help educate people and inspire change.

Now there are many ways to help, and Prince Ea actually covers a lot of them. But what I want to focus on is a video I first saw about 5 years ago.

In this video Prince Ea highlights a lot of the issues facing the education system today. He starts with a quote by Albert Einstein that goes “Everybody’s a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

He ‘calls school to the stand’ to sue them for killing creativity, individuality and being intellectually abusive.

He then goes on to show all the drastic change that has happened over the past 100 years; from phones to telephones and finally to our school system. While the phones and telephones changed drastically and are unrecognizable to what they were in the past, the school system looks exactly the same.

He asks the school system ‘with evidence like that, do you prepare students for the future or the past?’ I think Prince Ea does a great job in this video illustrating some key sticking points that we need to address as a species.

While we were prepared to work in factories in the past, today we are in the gig economy, one in which creativity, flexibility and the ability to think outside the box thrive. I myself am a web developer working with clients from all over the globe. I didn’t achieve this by following the rules of education, I challenged it. I took my education into my own hands and found resources online to help me learn. Things like Educate Inspire Change and Prince Ea and online coding schools.

The internet has changed the way we live. We need to learn how to interact with technology, not memorize facts. The ways of old are gone, and the ways of the future are re-birthed every single day. Today we need to take education into our own hands if we want any chance of preparing for the future. Only then will we retain our inner genius and be a light upon the world, not just another keg in the system.
