As times continue to grow in uncertainty, communities are coming together to help those in need. Free Little Libraries is a non-profit organization founded in 2009 with the intention of promoting neighborhood book exchanges. Take a book, leave a book. This concept has been re-imagined during the coronavirus when a mother from Woodbury, Minnesota filled a Little Free Pantry with essentials. “This is an uncertain time. I think being able to provide something to anyone is worth it,” Shelly Anderson says.

States across the country are beginning to adopt this practice by contributing canned goods, toilet paper, and more. In moments of crisis, we stand in solidarity. This is a great example of what can be birthed on a global level from this experience.

The Little Free Pantry movement is new. Jessica McClard started this near her home in Arkansas in 2016. However, it is now starting to spread exponentially as people come together to support those in need.

“This concept is made for this moment because we can maintain social distancing and also, there are a lot of people hurting right now,” Mclard shares.

“My kids have invested a lot of time into just making sure there’s stuff up there,” Anderson says. “The experience for them being able to be a part of something that gives back. That’s really cool.”
