The dating scene is still alive and strong during quarantine. While apps and online accounts encourage social interaction, Jeremy Cohen found a way to romance his neighbor and take her out on an intimate date.

“I thought she was really cute from far away,” Cohen told The New York Post. “During this quarantine, I think everyone is fiending for social interaction. I was like, ‘Oh my god, a girl. I haven’t seen one for so long.’”

The mystery woman was dancing on the rooftop of her apartment building before receiving a surprise message from a nearby neighbor. Cohen pulled out his phone to document the romantic exchange.

In a viral TikTok video, he shares the entire moment. He also mentions, “I can’t believe this actually worked, and yes this is a true story.”

In the video, Tori Cignarella was dancing with her roommate to High School Musical’s “We’re All in This Together.”

“I was not expecting to get a phone number out of it,” she added. “We could see his balcony pretty clearly from where we were on the roof and he basically just kind of shouted over to me.”

Cohen intends to share this endeavor on social media to spread positivity during a time of increased loneliness and isolation. His first video surpassed 4 million views. In his second installment, he documents their first date—an intimate meal over balconies with wine and tablecloth decor. To comply with physical distancing to flatten the curve, the new couple met over facetime.

His third video installment channels the character from “Bubble Boy” where Cohen inserts himself inside of an inflatable sphere to walk the city with his new love and bring her flowers. In the video, he states, “Just because we have to social distance doesn’t mean we have to be socially distant.”

This modern romance is blossoming into a global sensation. Perhaps it might influence the dating scene for ages to come. If not, it shows that no matter the situation it is always worth going the extra mile for love.
