Any kind of albino creature is a rarity of its own. From albino giraffes to albino deer, nature’s diversity never fails to surprise us with a new wonder to appreciate. The Albino Rhinoclemmys pulcherrima is most popularly known as the Painted Wood Turtle.
Their unique absence of color makes them a rarity due to a lack of camouflage. This albino turtle is easy to spot as prey and it even makes them an outcast when it is time to mate. Unfortunately, their rarity also leaves them at high risk for captivity to be sold in the black market.
While there are many factors at play when it comes to their ability to thrive, albino turtles tend to survive longer than others with albinism due to their protective shells. They’ll typically live for as long as 20 years.
These hard-shelled beauties thrive in just a few areas in the world. They can be found on the west coast of Mexico and Central America.
Albino turtles are a beautiful reminder of the diversity held within the arms of mother nature. According to My Modern Met, Hope is an albino turtle who caused an online sensation due to her heart beating outside of her shell. She has continued to thrive for her owner has a heart just as big as hers.
The owner mentions he didn’t know what to do when he got her and was nervous to touch her. However, despite the fear he promised himself, “I’m gonna do everything that I can to keep her happy and healthy and to give her a fighting chance at survival.”
She has no idea about her condition. The veterinarian says she will continue to grow, but the hole will remain the same size. It’s inspiring to see Hope continue to thrive and live a successful life.
