For all the dog lovers out there, this is your year! There’s a calendar for 2019 filled with awesome pictures of dogs catching treats in midair. Each month presents a different dogs’ joy frozen in time. It was a German photographer called Christian Vieler that created this great Dogs Catching Treats 2019 calendar.
“The pictures have their own magic. After more than 500 developed snapshots I know: they bring dogs even closer to our hearts. In the snapshot, we experience our best friends as we rarely can in everyday life: In their faces, we recognize panic, joy, fear of loss, sheer desire and the peak of pleasure – this is great Hollywood style cinema, as we otherwise only of people know. ” – Vieler
He takes photos of anyone’s dog by appointment. A session tends to take between one and two hours. He is a master of capturing the precise moment right before a dog gets (or misses) a treat thrown in the air. Their facial expressions ranging from exuberance to confusion are priceless!
A dog is known to have around 100 different facial expressions but they are so subtle we can barely distinguish one from the other. By using the marvelous technology of freeze-frame Vieler is able to capture all these facial expressions that we can’t normally see thus revealing the many comical grins of the man’s best friend.
He has been doing this since 2012 when he bought his first good camera and a new flash. He just wanted to test the equipment out but he didn’t have a subject. Then the idea came to him… in his pocket he still had a doggie treat. His Labrador Lotte was sitting in front of him. He threw the treat at her and as she snapped at it. He quickly pressed the button. After reviewing the photos he noticed how hilarious they were, as if you can see what’s going through Lotte’s head at that very moment.
He had so much fun taking the photos that he started photographing his friends’ dogs as well. Every dog he had the pleasure of doing a photo shoot with was his chance to immortalize that special moment when it shows its cutest grin.
“Dog’s faces with magnificent lineaments, telling us stories of panic, desire, and joy. Capture the right moment—that’s the secret to success.” – Vieler
He began uploading the pictures on Facebook and photo-sharing platforms after every session just because he loved the images so much. Turned out, everyone else did too and he was suddenly getting calls from newspapers and news websites from all over the world. People everywhere were looking at his photos; and that is how his career as a dog photographer began.
“I’ve always wanted to do something of my own. And if I inspire other people by doing something I enjoy—that’s just awesome.” – Vieler
Here are a few of his funniest shots that will surely bring a smile to your face:
