Dehydrated Koala Desperately Flags Down Cyclist For Help

Published

on

On their way back to Adelaide on Friday, December 20, a group of cyclists, including Anna Heuseler, saw a koala sitting in the middle of the road.

The animal was clearly suffering in the heat, with temperatures at 40C (158F). The little fellow seemed to realize help was at hand and went over the group.

Video footage shows the koala climbing onto the wheel of Anna’s bike, taking big gulps of water from her bottle.

PHOTO OF THE DAY 😍😍😍 Australian Koala Bears 🐻 suffering severe thirst in a heatwave. This Koala walked right up to me as I was descending and climbed up onto my bike while I gave him water. Anna shared the footage on Instagram, writing:

This Koala walked right up to me as I was descending and climbed up onto my bike while I gave him water. BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO ME ON A RIDE EVER.

Naturally, her followers loved the video and the koala, one person commented, ‘You are a good person in the world’, and another, ‘What a truly kind person you are… just wonderful watching this video’.

Later, Anna spoke to 7News, saying:

‘’We’ve seen literally hundreds of koalas over the years, we have never seen a koala do this. We were descending from Norton Summit Road back into the city early this morning and we came around a bend and there was a koala sitting in the middle of the road.

Naturally, we stopped because we were going to help relocate him off the road.’’

She continued: ‘’I stopped on my bike and he walked right up to me, quite quickly for a koala, and as I was giving him a drink from all our water bottles, he actually climbed up onto my bike.

None of us have ever seen anything like it.’’

This koala was fortunately not hurt in the fires that have left huge areas in the region destroyed.

South Australia declare a code red throughout the state as soaring temperatures also took its toll on the state’s homeless population.
