A cockatoo in Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia took to vandalism to show his displeasure in the town recently.
Isaac Sherring-Tito was walking down a street in in town when he saw something spiky falling from to the pavement from above. Looking up, Isaac saw a cockatoo ripping anti-nesting spikes off the building, obviously having had enough of the bird deterrent blocking his way
Isaac recorded the clever bird making its way along the ledge, using his beak and feet to dislodge and drop each section on the pavement below in defiance.
Wild cockatoos are native to Indonesia, New Guinea, the Philippines, the Solomon Islands and Australia. There are 21 different species of cockatoo and they can live up to 60 years, the oldest cockatoo in captivity, named Cookie, belonging to a Major Mitchell and lived at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago lived to the ripe old age of 83.
Cockatoos, like all parrots have zygodactyl feet (two toes pointing forward and two pointing backward). The combination of their strong beaks and feet, which they use much like we use our hands, makes them very adept climbers, excellent at feeding themselves and masters at destroying man-made structures that happen to annoy them.
