If the saying, “I love you to the moon and back” had a face, this is what it would look like. Japanese artist Yassan, also known as Yashushi Takahashi, traveled over 7,000 miles by foot, bike, and ferry to propose to his girlfriend in the most creative way. Yassan began his six month venture recording each step with a special GPS device.

Inspired to see and experience Japan the way he knew it in books, Yassan set out on his 31st birthday to begin his GPS art adventure. He knew he wanted to propose to his girlfriend, he just wasn’t sure how. In an era of proposal one upmanship, this sincere gesture was one for the books. It even secured a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Basically, GPS art provides a canvas for traveling artists to document their journey via Google Earth. Afterward, the journey is uploaded to the map displaying the shape each step made. In this case, Yassan created a display that would change the course of his life forever.

A heroic feat indeed, this plan required him to quit his job to fulfill the mission. For those guessing, she said yes.
