As adults we often look away or pretend we don’t see someone’s pain or sadness. We might try to justify our lack of action on not wanting to embarrass the person, or be embarrassed. It will do us all good to re-learn from children what we too once knew instinctively.
Children don’t look away and know that with a hug and kindness, word are often not necessary. A video recently went viral, when a boy in elementary school with Down syndrome went to console his classmate who has autism. Without hesitation, he reacted from his heart with kindness and empathy to help his friend.
