Sir David Attenborough Makes Surprise Appearance At Glastonbury To Warn Against Plastic Pollution
If you’ve been to Glastonbury, you’ll know just how massive an event it really is. With such a diverse crowd, it’s rather herd to meet every single person’s needs – unless of course your name is Sir David Attenborough.
At 93 years of age, it’s quite a reward to see the man himself up onstage with shots of various marine wildlife appearing on the screen behind him and a feint whale echo in the background. The crown unanimously applauded.
He thanked the crowd and referred back to Blue Planet II and how it has impacted people on the awareness of plastic pollution and how it’s causing tremendous damage to our marine life.
“It had an extraordinary effect, and now, this great festival has gone plastic free,” he said.
Attenborough continued: “That is more than a million bottles of water that have not been drunk by you in plastic. Thank you, thank you.”
He furthermore went on to announce a new documentary, saying:
“The oceans cover two thirds of this planet of ours. There’s one third that we occupy all the time, the land, that covers only one third of the globe.
“There are seven great continents on which we human beings live. Each of them has its own marvellous creatures, birds, mammals and animals of all kinds. Each of them has its own glory, each of them has its own problems.
“We have been making for the past four years a series about those things. About those seven very different continents. It starts later on this year. It’s called Seven Worlds One Continent.”
The crowd went still, seeing what was written behind him on screen, to which he mentioned:
“Seven Worlds, I should say, One Planet.”
The crowd applauded Attenborough as he left the stage, what a legend.
