Newlyweds inspire crowds of protestors with their love and representation of their community. The recent video of Dr. Kerry-Anne and Michael Gordon in their wedding attire has gone viral. It is a statement to the bond of love that can never be broken—both interpersonally and collectively. As they stepped out of city hall, the pair made their way into the streets to stand for justice and against police brutality.
Weddings are powerful and emotional days on their own. To fall on the same day of a protest mixed with the energy of a nation’s voice, the couple expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share their love and stance on an important matter.
“Not only are we feeling the movement of the people… but I’m meeting my husband, on our wedding day, as a strong Black man and a good representative of who we are as people, what our men are like, what our culture is like,” newlywed Dr. Kerry-Anne shares.
“We all see this injustice,” Michael adds. “We all want to see this needle shift away from the status quo and… that made this day more memorable in ways.”
Love is in the air and continues to speak louder than any violence that has tried to shift attention away from the purpose at hand. We are in a time of potent change. It is important that we all do our part to show up for ourselves so we may best show up for our communities. This is especially true when it comes to promoting peace.
“Everyone was so nice,” Michael finishes. “That in itself showed what the movement can be and for us to be a part of that, it’s a positive thing.”
