A young four year-old model with Down syndrome became a star of the popular American Girl toy catalogue.
Ivy Kimble, from Chicago, was chosen to star in the catalogue’s October edition.
American Girl is a magazine catalogue of their popular range of 18-inch tall ‘‘friend for every girl to grow with’’ dolls, made by the toy company Mattel.
The toy company takes the responsibility to represent children of all shapes, sizes and abilities very seriously and the range featured in the magazine has included of dolls with hearing aids, insulin equipment, crutches, guide dogs and wheelchairs and now one with Downs syndrome.
They also decided to encourage more diversity amongst the models featured in the magazine as well, which is where young Ivy breaks the ice.

In the October issue, Ivy is featured holding a small (15inch) baby American Girl Down’s syndrome doll, both wearing the same red sparkling dress.
Kirsten Kimble, Ivy’s mom, is happy for her daughter and hopes that Ivy’s inclusion in the magazine will open the door for greater representation of all children.
Kirsten told ABC7: “I have four girls and to have one of them in the [American Girl] catalogue is every mother’s dream.
“But especially having a child with Down syndrome, there’s not a lot of print or media with a lot of kids with Down syndrome.
“So, it’s a big deal for her. I mean, she’s a cute little girl and she has Down syndrome and she’s in the catalogue. We’re proud.’’
She continued: “For us, we want to keep seeing kids of all abilities out there in print.
“And I love that these companies are trying to make the conscious effort to continue to put them in print. My hope is that…it stops being a conscious effort and it just becomes natural. They’re just seen everywhere.”
