Incredible Shipping Container House & The Inside Is As Impressive As The Exterior

The mid 50’s saw the standardization of shipping containers which revolutionized the movement of goods across oceans, roads and railways. Somewhere along the line, they made their mark on the tiny house movement, and now the sky’s the limit!

James Whitaker, a designer based in London, designed a striking house in the shape of desert flower using shipping containers joined into a single unit.

The 200 square meter house has everything a home needs, including a kitchen, living room and three en suite bedrooms.

Designed for an anonymous film producer and supporter of creative projects such as this. “Earlier this year my client in LA had some friends visiting and, having a little time to spare, they all went on a road trip to visit the client’s plot of land in Joshua Tree,” said Whitaker. “One of the friends said, ‘you know what would look great here?’, before opening her laptop to show everyone a picture she’d seen on the internet. The picture was of an office that I’d designed several years ago but had never been built, so the next time the client was in London he got in touch and asked to meet up.”

Called The Joshua Tree Residence, construction is scheduled to start next year on the client’s 90-acre plot of land in California. The house will also be solar powered, making it more energy efficient
