Are Your Words Holding You Back? The Habitual Phrases You Say Might Be Hindering Your Personal Growth

Limiting Words

The vibrational world imprints itself in all aspects of our journey. More specifically, our vocal expression has the power to tear worlds apart or bring people together. It has the power to create health and well-being or bring on suffering. With that being said, are your words holding you back or pushing you toward your greatest version. The habitual phrases you say play a big role in the reality you experience. We may not even notice these small instances, but they direct energy in a way that can stunt our journey. When words become things, limiting phrases may continue to limit your beliefs.

“I’m just”

This one is very common. The word just means to behave according to what is morally right and fair. It is the root for the word justice and typically has positive connotations when providing assurance. However, it can also take a diminishing form.

“I’m ‘just’ working as a server right now until I land my dream job.”

When a single word is positioned in front of a phrase it can largely determine the tone and direction of what is being said. Why not remove the word ‘just’ and say, “I’m working as a server right now until I land my dream job.” While it still implies the position is temporary there is a sense of ownership behind what the person is doing. It takes it from victim mentality to an active player in their own reality.

This word is very habitual and we may not even realize when we’re saying it. However, the power it has can influence the person listening just as much as the person saying it. Remove the word ‘just’ and see how powerful you truly are!

“I’m trying to”

What do you want? Do you want to go to Europe and backpack? Are you working on starting your own business so you can empower others? What ever it is you set out to do in this precious life is yours—if you take it.

“I’m trying to become my own boss.”

Do you see how that sounds to yourself? What if we remove the word ‘trying’ and say “I’m becoming my own boss.”

Be authoritative and confident in what you have to say and what you set out to do. The only person who can second guess you is, well, you. If you second guess yourself, why wouldn’t others? Say it how you want it, from a place of love, and see it come right back to you. You deserve it.

“I should be…”

There is nothing that you should or shouldn’t be doing. It all happens just how it is mean. If you feel like you “should” go to that party out of obligation, then maybe you don’t belong there. It works the same way with goal-setting. If you are relaxing and all of a sudden feel guilty with “I should be working on my business model,” then do it rather than wallowing in guild. There is no sense in putting yourself down.

It’s ok to indulge and give yourself some love. It’s ok to miss a party if you want to stay in and read. However, it is not ok to make yourself feel guilty for not being on game all the time. The moments where you feel a “should,” then do. The moment you feel a shift from relaxation to getting into work, go for it. Listen to your body, mind, and spirit. The only thing you “should” be doing is what feels aligned. When we make ourselves feel guilty things start to feel like a chore and that’s not what we’re here to live our lives for.

Words are the sword, the tool, we can use to cut like a knife or draw empowering boundaries. If these words are a habit you find yourself speaking, take note of how you can replace these with ones that will serve your greatest good. You’re creating your world in every thought and conversation. What are some words you have omitted from your vocabulary to assist in your evolution?
