It’s no doubt the current pandemic is causing a stir to the current world we live in. Students are attending classes online, businesses are closed, and physical interaction is limited. Healthcare systems are overloaded and people around the world are falling ill. The reality is harsh, but the truth is what sets us free. Despite the craze surrounding the coronavirus, there is safety in the hands of change. We are being called to interact with the world in new and more meaningful ways. That in itself proves there is a bright side to the virus after all.
Rest, Reflect, and Reconsider
There’s a difference between keeping busy and being productive. As extra activities are closed due to physical distancing, there is an opportunity for embracing rest. This can take the form of catching up on a beloved Netflix show, reading a new book, or just sitting with a hot cup of tea. Without the distractions of a buzzing day filled with appointments and commitments, space opens for self-reflection and reconsideration. This doesn’t mean some of us aren’t working from home and this doesn’t mean responsibilities fly out of the window. Instead, we are presented with an opportunity to revisit the “why” behind our previous commitments. We have space to restructure the ways in which we desire to participate in the world.
Deeper Connection and Call to Give Back
With the uncovered amount of time at our disposal, we can finally check up on and call our long-lost cousin. We’re also presented with the beauty of community and being reminded of the only thing that stands true amidst the face of chaos, love. How can you give back during this time? Maybe you’re an artist who can provide fun and creative lessons via Livestream. Perhaps you feel called to drop groceries off for a neighbor who cannot go out. The ways in which we can foster deeper connections and give back during times like these are innumerable.
Cleaner & Greener
Factories are shut down. Mass-transportation has significantly decreased. All of the tools we once relied on for our daily lives are at rest and so is the planet. Without the constant buzz of traffic and motion, Earth has this space to breathe and renew herself. While the future is never certain, there are high hopes for a new way of interacting with our planet.
These are but a few of the positive instances that are right before us. It’s important to stay informed and take precautions. However, there is always a blessing behind any moment of hardship. There is always a lesson to learn.
