There seems to be an infinite stream of healing modalities for us to choose from these days which is great for the diverse nature found within each individual. While some may opt for therapy others may choose reiki. Where some may find meditation helpful others might enjoy the practice of earthing. In most cases, utilizing blend of multiple modalities proves to equip our healing arsenal with an array of options for living in full alignment. While color healing isn’t as mainstream as reiki or yoga, there is a lot of information proven to show the healing effects of color. After all, the colors emitted from reflected light travel at a specific frequency. How does it all work? And how can we use this on a daily basis to heal ailments and vibrate with ease?

 

How Does Color Affect Us?

Colors are an inescapable part of our reality and the psychology behind it interweaves through our daily lives. Interior designers meticulously select colors to create a tranquil space or set a cozy mood. On the other hand, advertisers are very specific when it comes to the colors used in a marketing campaign. Take a look at some of the most popular and long-standing brands. The colors chosen play a major role in determining their success and gaining trust among the masses. For example, if you walked into a daycare facility branded with colors of gray or black, you probably wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving a child there all day. It just doesn’t scream play, learning, and safety. However, if you were to see bright colors and softness, you’d feel a lot better about bringing your child to this daycare. It works the same way with other establishments.

 

There is a powerful frequency at play when it comes to colors and our subconscious mind. This is where the opportunity comes to work with this modality as a daily practice. The colors we choose to decorate our homes with or wear in our clothing communicate a specific message to our mind, body, and soul.

 

In a 2012 Ted Talk, Neil Harbisson added a new perspective to show how we might perceive color by listening to its vibrations. Certain shades and hues played back different tones ranging from ambient and relaxing to eccentric and lively. Others played back somber or sad tones. This example proves that our sensory vision is not the only thing taking in the colors. After all, color is a reflection of light and we are receiving this in many ways through the energetic body.

There’s a reason why you’re drawn to that color as opposed to another. The same rings true for colors you feel repulsed by. Each color is associated with its own characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses. Perhaps you are drawn to color because it represents an area you feel strong in. Alternatively, you might feel a need for support in another area which might pull you to a different color.

 

When you find yourself drawn or rejected to certain colors, it brings an opportunity to reflect on what that color makes you feel. It’s as simple as noticing whether you wear black because it makes you feel sophisticated or because you feel safe or unseen in it. Perhaps you realize wearing yellow makes you feel chipper whereas for someone else it might give them nausea.

 

The relationship you have with a specific color is your own and may be different for someone else. However, noticing patterns in why we choose to wear certain colors as opposed to others allows us to look within and see what we are deciding to reflect in the external world. If wearing black makes you feel safe, perhaps you may consider why it makes you feel safe. If red makes you feel confident, then wear it. If it makes you feel shy or uncomfortable, explore that!

Each color correlates with its own definition, chakra, and element.

 

Red is associated with the earth element and the root chakra. Key characteristics include grounding, security, survival, and support. Wearing red encourages and strengthens a connection to the foundation we build our lives upon. Again, each color may feel different to the individual. This is where self-reflection and the examination of our relationship to specific colors is important.

 

Orange strengthens areas related to creativity and sensuality. It is connected with the sacral chakra. If you’d like to strengthen aspects having to do with sensuality, creativity, or emotions, orange is a great addition to refresh those areas.

 

Yellow functions with the solar plexus chakra which governs willpower, self-discipline, and decision making. If you are feeling an imbalance in this space, add yellow to strengthen the way you assert yourself in the world and with yourself.

 

The color green is seen in all aspects of nature. Representing love and compassion, green is associated with the heart chakra. Incorporating green into your daily wardrobe helps strengthen any blockages around forgiveness, self-love, relationships, and empathy.

 

Blue governs the throat chakra which is associated with sound and speaking our personal truth. Exercising this energy can be catalyzed by wearing aquamarine and turquoise to express yourself fully and authentically.

 

As we soar into etheric levels, purple/indigo relates to vision, intuition, and psychic abilities. Add more of this color to invite the strengthening and opening of your third eye, the pineal gland. This is the chakra that allows us to tune into messages from within.

 

Violet and white are often associated with the crown chakra or higher states of consciousness. Wearing these colors invite a deeper connection to the unity and divine connection that weaves us all together.

 

Black is the absence of color and absorbs all energy equally while reflecting none. It symbolizes the potential of oneness and is commonly associated with mystery and elegance

 

These are brief descriptions and it is important to take them and apply in a way that is true to you. Incorporating color in your daily wardrobe is a simple, yet effective way to work with this healing modality. However, you may find it helpful or useful to work with therapeutic color lights or envisioning specific colors during meditation.
