One of the most important things for a good life is sleep. Getting the right amount of sleep has countless health benefits and not getting enough sleep leads to serious problems. You may have already known that there are benefits to sleeping well…but did you know that you can get additional benefits by sleeping naked? Most people don’t know because statistics show that only 8% of the population sleeps in the nude and that number would surely be higher if everyone knew the benefits.
Of course, now you must be thinking, “that’s awesome!”…right? There’s a reason kids love to run around without their clothes on; because it feels good to be naked. Not only do you sleep better because it is more comfortable, but sleeping naked can also help you make more money, reduce stress, lose weight, and more. So, from this day forth, when bedtime hits, take your clothes off before you get in that bed. It is by far the easiest and most effective strategy to improve your life. Here’s why:
You’ll Gain More Free Time
Your laundry load will lighten. If you don’t wear pajamas, there are none to have to wash, fold, and put away. You do have to wash your sheets more often but that’s not as much work, and you don’t have to wash them as often, as a pile of pajamas.
You Save Money
Less laundry means less detergent, and lower water and electric bills. Also, if you don’t wear pajamas, you don’t have to buy pajamas.
It’s Good For Your Mind
The quality of your sleep will be better because you are more comfortable. Your body temperature will be cooler and there will be less chances of sleep interference due to discomfort, like a twisted shirt. Better quality sleep is exactly what your brain needs to “clean up” the mess from your waking day.
The University of Amsterdam researchers found that lowering your skin temperature increases the depth of your sleep and reduces the number of times you wake up in the night. You can lower your skin temperature by eliminating that layer of clothing that ultimately heats up your body temperature.
The University of Rochester conducted a research experiment whose results demonstrate this. The study proves that when you sleep your brain removes toxic proteins from its neurons that are by-products of neural activity when you’re awake. The thing is, your brain can only adequately remove these toxic proteins when you have a decent amount of high-quality sleep. If you don’t get the high-quality, deep sleep, those toxic proteins remain in your brain cells, where they wreak havoc and ultimately impairing your ability to think right. As a result, this slows your ability to process information and problem solve, kills your creativity, and increases your emotional reactivity
It Reduces Stress Levels
Prolonged stress is deadly. It suppresses your immune system, decreases your cognitive performance, and increases your risk of heart disease, depression, and obesity. Yet, stress is unavoidable. At some point in your life, here and there, you will experience stress. This stress throws your cortisol levels out of whack but proper rest helps to restore normal cortisol levels. Since sleeping naked will help you to get a better night’s sleep (as was previously mentioned) it will keep your stress levels at a minimum by allowing your body to rebalance its cortisol levels. If you don’t, and your cortisol levels stay high, it can lead to increased anxiety, cravings for bad food, weight gain, and more.
It Helps You Loose Weight
The U.S. National Institutes of Health conducted a study and found that keeping yourself cool while you sleep speeds the body’s metabolism. How so? Your body creates more brown fat to keep you warm. Brown fat produces heat by burning calories (300 times more heat than any organ in the body). This boosts your metabolism all day long to help you lose weight.
Its Good For Your Blood Flow
Removing your clothes improves blood circulation, which is good for your heart and your muscles.
It Prevents Aging
By keeping your sleeping environment below 70 degrees (F) every night, you can help your body regulate its melatonin and growth hormone levels. These chemicals help the body prevent aging and they are essential to good health. If you sleep with clothes on its more likely your body heats up and prevents effective use of these hormones. Therefore, sleeping with clothes on makes you grow old faster. Sleeping naked makes you stay younger looking for as long as possible. It is a free anti-aging strategy.
It Builds Confidence, The Pillar Of Success
Confidence pushes you to try new things, take on challenges, and persevere in the face of adversity. When you sleep naked you will begin to feel more comfortable in your own skin and as your comfort with your own body increases, so does your self-esteem and confidence. A study by the University of Melbourne found that confident people earn higher wages and get promoted more often than their less confident counterparts.
It Ensures Skin-on-Skin Contact
If you’re married, or living with your significant other, sleeping naked gives a greater chance of skin-on-skin contact, which leads to a more active love life. All of this releases copious amounts of oxytocin – the neurotransmitter that helps you feel those good feelings about your significant other.
It’s Good For Your Skin
Most of your skin is restricted all day, covered by layers of clothing. Not wearing clothes allows your body to finally breathe. By sleeping naked you’ll be giving your skin the chance to air out which can lower the risk of skin diseases, (like athlete’s foot for example) that result from wet, restricted skin.
It Keeps Your Reproductive Organs Happier
For men, the cooler sleeping conditions allows your testes to remain at a cooler temperature which helps keep your sperm healthy and your reproductive systems functioning as normal.
For women, the cooler and more airy sleeping conditions can actually prevent yeast infections because yeast grows better in warm, moist conditions.
