Note to the World: This Virus Could Save the Planet

corona vorus

In the wake of devastating climate change and continual business as usual with unsustainable economic growth at the expense of finite planetary resources, It just might be that our lull into apathy and disregard for Mother nature was due a shake up.

That shake up seems to be manifesting today as COVID-19.

Pre-corona virus Scientists had already declared our civilisation is headed towards irreversible collapse. Over the last six months, we have watched from our TVs the lungs of the Earth on fire and burning for months in Australia and in the Amazon. Ignoring the cries of nature that we must act immediately.

But we have for the most part ignored the warnings. Ignored the science, and continued business as usual.

Our behaviour appears to be viral.

We exist on Earth, our host. Where we multiply indefinitely, carpeting the planet with grey soul-less cities. We cut down a football pitch size of forest every one second and the oceans are set to contain more plastic than fish by 2050.

We at current, exist not in harmony with nature but instead at the expense of it.

Now the tables have turned, first the Planet’s lung were aflame, now it’s our own lungs at risk and inflamed with COVID-19 directly attacking our respiratory system.

Perhaps this is the reflection.

Perhaps, paradoxically it’s we humans, right now, that are the virus. Corona is here to help us.

Our global system has been brought to its knees, our infectious behaviour and pollution grinding to a complete halt. The smog is clearing. The water is clearer. Wild animals have ventured into locked-down cities Worldwide. NASA images show China has record breaking pollution cuts.

It’s as if the Planet is sending us all to our bedrooms so we can think about what we’ve been doing.

And in watching panic and fear set in, our flimsy veil of comfort has fallen, revealing just how fragile we are when we rely on a system. An economic system that is not sustainable, but instead fuelled by the necessity to endlessly consume the animals, the trees, the oil, our own home. Where money is the oxygen on which the fire of global warming burns.

In today’s World, ‘Sustainably sourced’ is just a keyword slapped on a product you might care to pay more for if you can afford to.

We have severed our connection to nature. Internally and externally. And for that we live in fear. Nature alone provides the abundance, but we have monopolised it. Our system instead, relies on you feeling an internal void that you must fill by buying more and being more.

So we are faced with a hard truth, we have been acting like a virus.

But with this pandemic, we have been given the space and time to make change.

The potential for harmony, for balance, for rekindling a connection with nature, is within each one of us. If we simply have the courage to unplug from this archaic game and tune back into what is real.

Tune into the heart. Into intuition. Into love.
Ask yourself, is this right? Is this how I want to be living? What would my grandchildren say about how we acted in the wake of a species faced with self-extinction?

I can’t tell you what the right thing to do is. Only you know that. Everyone’s path is theirs to craft. But I do ask that you actually craft it.

This is sacred time to reflect.

Take responsibility during these hours of reflection. Take back your sovereignty. Your power. Make a plan. Or you’ll be creating someone else’s plan – and right now the plan being handed down to us is a blueprint for a species condemned to suffer in a mode of self-aggrandising, self destruction.

So it’s time for change. It’s time for us to encourage each other to tune out of this monopolistic game, and carve our own path’s together.
