The Implications of Deception

O what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive – Sir Walter Scott, Marmion

Lying is an everyday part of life, we all lie. In a 2002 study by Robert Feldman of the University of Massachusetts he found that on average people lied 2 to 3 times in a ten minutes conversation. It may seem like a lot but in the spirit of the new Star Wars release – “Search your feelings, you know it to be true”
Lying has been around much longer than I have and will be here much longer than I will be also but what are the possible affects of lying? Well let’s figure it out.
We lie because we are afraid of the consequences if we tell the truth such as :
⦁ You’re going to look bad
⦁ You may be punished
⦁ Your image will suffer
It’s commonly accepted that lying can cause depression, anxiety and other stresses because you may be found out. It isn’t worth it people! This may be our only shot in life so why waste it spinning a web of lies just to be in a constant state of worry and self-loathing. Be able to look someone in the eyes and connect with someone
For everyone else who will continue to lie I have an almost 2000 year old piece of advice  – ”A liar should have a good memory” – Quintilian
