Don’t you just love it when those with a platform not only create awareness of issues concerning humanity and our planet, like RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, but also take positive action to show what can be done, like the vegan puffer jacket just launched.
RZA’s company, 36 Chambers, teamed up with PETA and the German clothing brand Embassy of Bricks for the project. Made from plastic bottles recovered from the ocean, the jacked is called the Flying Guillotine Puffer Jacket, named after the Taiwanese film “Master of the Flying Guillotine.”
RZA says that we now have the technology to create ethical products.
“As we evolve as a people through technology and ingenuity, we have the ability through humane ways to fashion garments that not only serve our purpose but also, more importantly, abandon the unnecessary cruelty to animals,” he said.
PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a statement that, “While down items harm animals and the planet, this warm, trendy vegan coat made with 100 percent recycled ocean plastic will help PETA save animals. The Flying Guillotine Puffer Jacket is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to wear their heart on their sleeve this winter.”
Retailing at around $336 , 15% of the profits will be donated to PETA.
Since the majority of official members of the group are vegan, developing and creating cruelty-free products is a priority for the company. 36 Chambers also recently launched a vegan leather wallet made from the fibers of banana trees as well as a variety of other vegan products since the company was established in 2016.
In 2018, the Wu-Tang Clan teamed up with fast food chain White Castle to promote the restaurant’s plant-based “Impossible Sliders.”
Appearing on the Joe Rogan podcast, RZA talked in detail about his vegan lifestyle and the motivations behind it.
Great to see RZA and The Clan put their money where their hearts are.
