Near the Ozark mountains in Arakansas, a rather peculiar thing has happened, A hunter named Thomas Alexander, 66, was killed by his ‘kill’.
Assuming the buck he shot was in fact dead, he went to check on the body of his kill, this is when the deer stood up and attacked him back.
After the attack, Mr Alexander managed to call his wife who then called emergency services.
“I don’t know how long he left [the deer] there, but he went up to check it to make sure it was dead, and evidently it wasn’t.” said Keith Stephens who is from the Game and Fish Commission in Arkansas. He also said it’s one of the stranger things that happened throughout his 20 year career.
He also told the BBC that paramedics had tried to take him to hospital in an air ambulance, but “unfortunately, he stopped breathing before they could get in the helicopter so couldn’t be air-lifted due to efforts at CPR”.
There will be a post-mortem examination to determine cause of death, however, it’s been noted by the hospital that he was severely injured and had incurred many puncture wounds.
The Game and Fish Commission sent at least two dogs out Wednesday in hopes of tracking down the buck, which is believed to still be alive.
