Summer is making its presence known and people are ready to enjoy sunkissed days filled with outdoor fun. While restrictions are still in execution, organizations are getting creative with ways to keep the party going. This year marks the comeback of all things drive-in. About two weeks ago, Germany hosted a drive-in disco party to kick the season off.
Virtual events are still a useful way to get big groups of people together. Many artists have hosted their own IG live concerts while others have participated in virtual events with an organization.
The virtual aspect has provided a lot for us, but it’s not enough for naturally social creatures. Drive-in gatherings come in to bring what the virtual realm can not—physical connection. However, this doesn’t change the physical distancing that is still being enforced, but it does bring a new level of connection. Here, it provides people with the opportunity to get out of their house, away from their screens, and back in the warmth of a crowd. Hello, summer 2020.
“Complete with pyrotechnics and fireworks for the full show effect, a massive parking lot was decked out with ravers (who all stayed in their cars), and gave the authentic feel of a rave that we all miss so much,” according to We Rave You.
According to BBC, “Germany’s physical restrictions are carrying out through the summer until August 31.” As business models continue to change, consumer habits are sure to follow. Drive-in discos are meeting the stage along with the classic drive-in theater. Other organizations are starting to take notice to host comedy shows as well. It’s safe to say 2020 may not have been the future we were expecting, but it is definitely bringing a blast from the past.
