Rhea Bullos, an 11-year-old athlete in the Philippines, won multiple gold medals in a sports competition, winning three races without wearing running shoes.
Rhea, a pupil at Salvacion Elementary School in Balasan, Iloilo, created her own ‘shoes’ by wrapping her feet with plaster bandages for the competition, even adding a ‘Nike’ swoosh lookalike.
Trainer, Predirick B. Valenzuela shared photos on his facebook page saying:
LOOK: Rhea Bullos of Balasan, Iloilo won 3 golds despite her makeshift ‘NIKE’ shoes. Rhea won in the 400, 800, and 1500 meter run elementary girls in the ongoing Iloilo Schools Sports Council Meet 2019.
Rhea has become the pride of the nation after taking gold in her three races, as where the nations Netizens, many of whom tagged the US sports brand and local sport stores, including Titan 22, a basketball specialty store.
Jeffrey Cariaso, the co-founder of Titan and a head coach of the Philippines’ Alaska Aces professional basketball team, met with the Rhea to show his appreciation for her talent and victory.
Online, Filipinos praised the athlete’s dedication and drive, calling her a role model while others demanded that Nike sponsor the young runner. Some commenters wanted to contribute to or buy Rhea running shoes and requested her shoe size.
One comment encouraged Rhea to: “Keep dreams burning and hold on to those dreams!”
