7 Ways To Recognise You Are Not Being Yourself:
You identify too much with the image you present to others
When we feel like we need to focus on what is expected of us too much, we lose touch with who we really are. It’s good to have an understanding of the way pothers perceive you, it allows you to fit into society. But remember to act up on what you actually want and need! Most of the time we can feel insecure about whether we are well liked, and we can end up changing less desirable parts of ourselves as a result. This can have an adverse effect, as you might find the reason for any dislike is because people can tell you’re not being honest about you’re true character.
You forget a lot
Memory is a funny thing. A lot the time we can remember so far back to our younger years in childhood, but not what we done yesterday. If you’re focusing too much energy on your conscious mind and not on your subconscious, it could mean you consistently forget. Our subconscious holds all of our memories, needs and emotional reactions. Our conscious mind is the part of us that has all these racing thoughts about every day life. It can be stressful keeping up with everything as you’re not allowing yourself the time to just relax and be yourself.
You find yourself panicking and stressing over little things
Maybe you’ve never suffered from anxiety (or maybe you have) but in certain situations you feel overwhelmed, especially when you would normally handle these things with ease. We can all suffer from anxiety from time to time, there doesn’t need to be a medical diagnosis to be anxious. It’s a completely normal and rational human response to stressful situations. Maybe you consider yourself a ‘hold it together’ type of person, but you find yourself snapping at people or finding it difficult to process your emotions. This can indicate you’re not being yourself.
You’re partying all the time
It is completely healthy to have a balanced social life and to want to spend time with other people. But too much of it or an imbalance between that and solitude can mean you are trying to fill a void in your life where you feel unfulfilled. Be honest with yourself about the reasons you are partying all the time Is it genuine? Or do you feel if you don’t you will feel empty or lonely? Try to get to the root of the issue, maybe it can provide the answers. If you do not think you’re doing it for the wrong reasons you shouldn’t feel familiar with the feelings of guilt, shame, regret…
You resist change in your life
Often when we are not being ourselves or one with the universe, we resist any kind of change in our lives. It is unnatural for anything to stay the same, nothing lasts forever. You may feel stuck in limbo or even worse in a rut. Maybe there is something lurking in your deep unconscious that you have buried and forgot to deal with? Or maybe, it’s that you don’t want to deal with it? Either way, if we learn to embrace change we are being our true selves and therefore guided on our correct path.
You ignore signs and warnings from your gut instinct
Regardless of how out of tune with yourself you are, you still receive gut instincts when something just doesn’t sit right. Whether it’s a decision you’ve made, or something that’s happened outwith your control, your intuition tries to make you aware that something is off. If you’ve noticed that more and more that you are getting these signs or warnings from our intuition, it may be a physical manifestation of guilt that you’re not listening to yourself, and therefore are not being true to who you are.
You avoid dealing with difficult emotions
This is a big one! Of course no one WANTS to deal with difficult emotions… because it’s difficult. But in not dealing with them you’re not validating how you feel and this can manifest both physically and emotionally. It’s human nature to experience both ‘good and bad’ however, if you’re choosing not to deal with them you’re not listening to your inner voice. Repressing emotions can cause us to feel ’emotionally full’ as we haven’t released them. We need to clear them out every once in a while, maybe even every day depending how emotional you are. How else can you make room for any good emotions?
