An italian project named Capsuli Mundi is aiming to present an eco-friendly alternative to being buried in a coffin. These revolutionary new ‘seeds’ have been developed to be an alternative to the typical burial. Like a coffin these egg-shaped pods are designed to each house a deceased human body for burial.
Once the pod has been buried and a tree planted above it, it will soak nutrients from the pod below. Anna Citelli and Raoul Bretzel the designers behind the project explain , ” The tree is chosen when the person is alive, relatives and friends look after it when death occurs.”
Just imagine entire memorial parks full of trees that eventually turn into a forest – for a cemetery. This is a fantastic alternative to cutting down forests and chopping wood for coffins. It would fill the soil of much needed nutrients, and provide even more nutrients for neighboring trees/coffins.
I personally like the thought that a new life is sprouting as a result of the death of a loved one. It’s also nice that family and friends could also visit a tree (that has been given life from their loved deceased), care for it, maintain it and rest in its shade which will offer more comfort than visiting a gravestone.
