Nearly four years ago I was going through a hard time and had to overcome some major personal battles and on one memorable day  I sat on my bed, turned on my laptop and asked myself ,’If I died tomorrow , how would I want my son to know and remember me?’ (Keeping in mind my son was very young and had not seen me for a long time for reasons I can’t go into here). So I thought if I write something on the internet it will be immortalized and one day when he is older he will be able to read it, so I created a page on Facebook and called it Educate Inspire Change and I wrote the following which is still the description in the about section to this day ; ‘ Educate yourself. Inspire Others. Change the world.
If you feel strongly about something then do something about it. For too long we have been keeping our thoughts to ourselves and letting them serve no purpose. I no longer want to be someone who just observes , there are too many people in the world who just sit on the sidelines. I don’t want to be on the sidelines anymore, so I am trying to do what I can to make a difference. Even if i am unsuccessful I will know that i have at least tried and even if my efforts inspire just one other person to try and make a difference then my efforts will not have been in vain. I think it was Bob Marley who said ,”The people who are trying to make this world worse aren’t taking the day off. Why should I?”
All around us there is injustice and inequality. If people like me and you just observe this and think that we cant do anything then that’s exactly what will happen – nothing. I cant let it be on my conscience anymore, even if all you can do is educate yourself better on these matters then that is a step in the right direction.
I want to create a forum for people where i can raise awareness of issues that are important to people and give people a voice that can actually be heard. Its important to educate people on the truth, we need to let people know what is actually happening around the world.
I will look to highlight issues which expose inequalities and injustices around the globe and look to gather a large group of people who can contribute to helping inform and educate others on these issues. Imagine the possibilities if we can get enough people who are well informed and passionate about making the world we live in a better place all striving for the same goal.
Education is the most important tool that people can use to change the world, and sadly the world is full of misguided and uneducated people. We need to change this. Remember it only takes the smallest of sparks to light the biggest fire. Start somewhere, let’s make a difference.’

Now nearly 4 years later the page has grown to over 1.1 million followers at the time of writing this article and I have grown with the page and I feel that because of my page and others like it millions around the world have had seeds of truth planted in them and that this is all part of an awakening. There is a real shift in energy on this planet… I can feel it, I can see it in everyday life when I talk to friends and I see it when I come online and witness new pages, forums and websites popping up everyday. Thanks to the internet, social media and people becoming much more tech savvy the world is fast becoming one big collective consciousness and we are all educating and inspiring each other on a daily basis. We are giving each other a real sense of hope and that is why I wanted to create this article for ways that any of YOU can make an impact online. It doesn’t matter how big or how small of an impact you make, the fact each of you has a positive impact on the online world will reflect hugely on a global scale, one post or piece of information you shared last year might be being read right now by a young school girl in India and will shape her decisions and how the rest of her life will be lived. And that in turn will shape every generation of her family thereafter. So never feel like you can’t make a difference because you most likely already have.

Simple Ways YOU Can Change The World Using Social Media

I am going to split this into two parts. For those of you who just use social media for personal reasons and want keep up to date with news and what your friends and family are doing etc, and those of you who are a bit more tech savvy and want to use social media to perhaps build a brand or to create a website which shares information for the masses.

For the first group this is for you:

Facebook filters your feed with things you react to, so a good place to start would be to unlike pages you don’t really like or interact with and to look for pages in which you do have an active interest and ensure you like, share and comment on their posts. This will ensure the pages that matter to you actually appear on your feed. Also a little tip is you can hover over the like button on pages and click ‘see first’ as shown in the diagram below.

see first

Make sure you invite all of your friends to like the pages you like that share content of real use and substance, I’m talking about pages that share positive memes and informative articles that contribute to raising the energy of it’s readers/viewers which is the exact opposite of what mainstream channels like Fox News, CNN and the BBC do. Doing this alone will help to make people feed’s more positive and full of truths.

I also strongly suggest you join or even make your own forums/groups on sites like Facebook, Reddit etc where you can actively engage in dialogue with like minded people and have constructive conversations and even debates about subjects that matter to you.

These might sound like small menial things but on a grand scale if all of you did this then there would be an immediate impact on the world.  Pages like Educate Inspire Change and other pages do not have a limitless budget and T.V air time where we can get most of the world to plug into us. We rely on people like YOU to engage with us and share our content. So every little like, share or comment you have on our page is like a little ripple of hope that can reach out across the world, and ripples can turn into waves that can knock down even the biggest walls of oppression. It’s up to us to take responsibility to educate our friends, family and most importantly our children. We need to equip them with the tools they need to take on big government and big corporations. We need to empower them with the ability to question everything and to see the potential in all of us.

So with just a few simple tasks you can make a big difference in the world of social media. Facebook and other big social media giants monitor the stuff you react to , so be sure to react to what’s important. And also, a recent article appeared  which now means that is even more important you share our content as Facebook is again changing their algorithms to make it even more difficult for businesses to reach you on Facebook. You can read that article here : http://finance.yahoo.com/news/facebook-news-feed-changes-friends-family-163713908.html

Now for the people who are more tech savvy this is for you …

We live in a time when a teenager can pick up his/her smartphone, create a video and reach millions of people around the world within a matter of minutes or hours. The power we have at our fingertips is I believe really taken for granted. I mean take me for example, from my bedroom on my laptop with literally no money I started an online page which I managed to turn into a business that helps to educate and inspire people to change the world. I am the proof that any of you can do it! I did it with no guidance and made many mistakes along the way. That is why I want to write this for you guys to have some idea of what path to take and what choices to make in order to do whatever it is you want to do in the online world.

First of all you need to have a clear and concise idea of what it is YOU WANT TO DO. What is your goal? Do you want to wake up the masses? Do you want to create videos and star in them yourself and inspire people with the spoken word? Whatever it is you want to do, decide and go with it.

Create a Facebook page, instagram account, twitter account, whatever platform you feel comfortable with. I am personally best with Facebook and it’s the biggest of them all so it makes the most sense for me to talk about that.So ,once you make your page you have to focus on making really good original content. That might be images with information on them, or quotes, or videos. But the key is to make them original because what you want to build is a brand , and use that brand to gain the trust and loyalty of your followers so that they stay with you for the journey.

Once you have your page, your content and your brand seek other people like yourself and work together! There are tons of groups on Facebook where you can find page admins or like minded people. Use eachother to help eachother grow, and seek advice from eachother. Only the very few make it alone in this game. Ill give you one example of someone who has made a huge impact online in a short space of time , his name is Prince EA. The reason why he has made it so quick is because of his raw talent, his ability to communicate through the medium of video. Do not underestimate the power of video, especially now on Facebook. If you can make engaging thoughtful content on video you have an ace up your sleeve, use it.

Okay, now that you have your page, and it’s growing be sure to tag your friends(with permission) in your posts, use them to share your content and help you grow. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you want to use Social media to make an impact on the world you need to really put yourself out there with confidence.

Look for bigger pages and reach out to them, look for their direct emails as most won’t respond to Facebook messages. Write personal and well thought out emails which capture their attention. This is important because you don’t realize just how many emails I get daily and how many I read the fist sentence of and just skip to the next. Networking is 80% of the battle! Remember that.

I understand most of you will have jobs or exams and struggle to find the time for all this on social media but if you want to make a difference and make it using social media then FIND THE TIME. Stop watching Game of thrones or cancel that night out and spend it working online. You will thank me down the line. Trust me.

Finally I am going to leave you with a link to someone’s page, I highly recommend if you want to make it in social media that you watch and understand what he has to say, his nam eis Gary Vaynerchuk >  https://www.facebook.com/gary

Below I am going to leave the links to a number of pages that I think you should look at. Like them and engage with them and you will find them useful on your journey into the world of Social Media.
