On September 18th, 2001, President Bush and Congress signed into law the AUMF. This authorized the President to “use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.”
Since then, we have:
• Spent over 1.5 TRILLION dollars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria.;
• Sacrificed and lost 67,802 American lives;
• Taken the lives of at least 520,000 people in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria – the vast majority who have been civilians;
• We have committed torture at Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, and many other facilities throughout the world.
And we are going to continue to spend more to fund illegal wars around the globe…
