Many journalists have been speaking out against the mainstream media, including former New York Times columnist Chris Hedges. He spent nearly two decades as a foreign correspondent, and claims that an unfettered press corps is a myth.
Referring to ISIS he says ” We don’t understand in essence how the brutalised became brutal, we don’t understand that these figures are our creation. And that’s dangerous, because that is the failure of the press.”
He goes on to say this about the mainstream media, ”The news industry is in the business of entertainment, not news, they will throw in news only IF it’s entertaining..”
When asked about the future of journalism he says the outlook is a bleak one …,
”It’s going to be very hard for honest journalists to make a living”.
”Essentially honest journalists are going to become members of the working class, maybe even the working poor.”
”They are not going to be given a platform within the mainstream”
